About the garden

The garden is my happy place. I live in an apartment but I’m lucky to be able to rent a 1000 sq.ft. garden at the  Burnaby And Region Allotment Garden Association or BARAGA for short. The plot has a green house – built by yours truly with the help of my parents and a compost area. There is a flower bed along the path and a park area at the back of the plot.

Start small & learn

Not everyone has such a big garden but if you have a reasonable bright spot you can grow plants. Even a single pot of your favourite herbs or flowers can bring pleasure and improve your environment.

I’m still learning and only the strongest survive in my garden. There will be bad harvests and good harvests but you will always get something from time in the garden, even if it’s just a workout from weeding. Growing plants is relaxing and being outdoors in the fresh air is great for boosting energy and getting a good nights sleep.

We have just planted our little patch, L is fiercely defending it against the attentions of the local pigeons x

Great. I can’t think of a better person to defend the garden against pigeons. I think everyone needs a little gardening in their life right now.

We have just planted the seeds you bought us for Christmas. Looking forward to tasting the results. Now we are in lockdown because of Covid19 it’s great to get into the garden nd benefit from the fresh air and excercise.
